Amazon.com Product Description Amazon.com Product Description With the ELBT595, Uniden introduces CellLink, the latest cordless technology that lets your cordless home phone access your cellular phone's minutes. Of course, you'll need a Bluetooth-enabled cell phone, and the economic advantages of using "free cellular minutes" will depend on your cellular agreement, but CellLink offers obvious convenience to existing cell customers. Plus, the ELBT595 offers a built-in digital answering machine, expandability to 10 handsets, enhanced caller ID with photos, an advanced phonebook, and recordable customer ringers--truly a comprehensive telephone solution. p img src="http://g-images.amazon.com/images/G/01/buttons/watch-01.gif" width=73 height=22 border=0 align=center bthis phone in action/Bp BFeatures:/B ul img border="1" src="http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/electronics/detail-page/unidenelbt595b.jpg" align="right" li5.8 GHz digital spread spectrum technology liBluetooth headset compatible liCellLink technology allowing you to link with your Bluetooth-enabled cell phone liDigital answering system liFull color picture handset display liCaller ID/call waiting deluxe options liBattery backup during power outage liSetup all phonebook settings using your laptop or computer liUSB connector with downloadable software included liExpandable to a total of 10 handsets, only one phone jack required li100 caller ID numbers, 100 phonebook names with four numbers per name liAdvanced phonebook options, including alpha sort, group sort, multiple numbers per name liDownloadable pictures, recordable ringer tones libattery/clock/date/banner displays liHands-free speakerphone in handset and base liDirectLink mode for two-way conversation between handsets without the base liTransfer/intercom from handset to handset, plus handset to base liFive-way conferencing calling liSoftware and hardware included: CD-ROM, USB cable, ringer record cable /ul BHow Does Bluetooth Work?/Bbr Bluetooth technology has been incorporated into this phone to make it easy to communicate with either a Bluetooth-enabled cell phone or a wireless headset. You don't even have to think about it. Bluetooth doesn't require you to do anything special to make it work. The devices find each other and strike up a conversation without any user input at all. Now you can tap into your cell phone minutes to take advantage of your cellular plan, or just go hands-free using your land line for crystal-clear communication anywhere in the house.p BHow Does CellLink Work?/Bbr Uniden CellLink technology lets you easily take advantage of your cell phone's minutes. If you have a Bluetooth v1.1 compliant mobile phone and register it to the base, you can make or receive a call through your mobile line as well as your normal land line. To use your mobile line, press the Mobile soft key. The two lines will be completely independent on your ELBT595. For example, you can have one handset operating on the land line while another handset and the base unit participate in a three-way conference call on the mobile line. However, you cannot make or receive a land line call using a Bluetooth mobile phone, and a Bluetooth mobile phone will not ring when the ELBT595 receives a land line calI. p center img border="0" src="http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/electronics/detail-page/unidenelbt595a.jpg" /centerp clear="left" bEasy, Powerful Features/bBr img border="0" src="http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/electronics/detail-page/unidenelbt595c.jpg" align="right" Additional features include enhanced caller ID so you can see who's calling with a unique full color picture and distinctive ring. The digital answering system quickly access your answering system using your handset or your base. Volume settings adjust the ringer and speaker volumes on your handset. An advanced phonebook organizes your names and numbers, with special capabilities like storing four numbers per name and sorting names into groups. p You can easily update your phonebook settings using your computer with the USB connector and software included. Enjoy hands-free communication without wires using a Bluetooth headset or the hands-free speakerphone. Easily navigate features with a joystick and soft-key menus. Good concept... but falls short May 6, 2005 ThomasN (Houston, TX) 87 out of 100 found this review helpful
Just gotten this phone with an extra handset for only few days and so far, I've been somewhat pleased with the performance. The system has a wealth of features, yet relatively easy to setup operate. The main highlight is the cell phone-like function design with Bluetooth technology. The sound quality on both ends is loud and clear. My Motorola HS850 bluetooth headset links up without a hitch. However, its shortcomings are the buttons on the handset which feels too plastic, and the LCD on the front side of the handset is difficult to read, even more so when lit. A friend had commented that the handset's LCD screen is small and OS software looks primitive. He also added that the handset's plastic housing doesn't have a solid feel to it. By the way, when opening/closing the handset, the hinge squeaks. For that price, one expects higher quality materials used and have good, solid construction. Also a concern is the battery charge/life. So far, I noticed that a charge yields about the same as a typical cell phone talk time, which is relatively short for a cordless phone. All said, I have until the end of the month to put it thru a thorough test before having the option of returning it.

br /UPDATE - Had the phone for a week now... and it's going back to the store. Guess it didn't make it to the end of the month. Too expensive of a phone system that has too many shortcomings. I'll hold off for a 2nd generation. This should have been a 2-star rating (maybe 3-star), but definitely not a 5-star.
Cordless + Wireles - best innovative Cordless Phone To-Date May 4, 2005 D. Keh (OC, CA, USA) 46 out of 52 found this review helpful
Since I rarely make calls from my home phone, I got rid of my land line and my Panasonic 2.4Ghz expandable phone system (total 5 handsets). To simplify my life even further, I am using my Cell phone as my home phone. With all the free weekend and nights minutes, I really don't need any land line phone.
br /
br /However, there are times when someone calls me and my cell phone is not around me, say upstair in the bedroom, and I am downstair. This is the time where I missed the cordless handsets the most, because I used to have them in every room.

br /I read about this Uniden phone back in January, and found it is probably what I need, so I pre-order it last month. It was finally available last Thursday and I received it today with an extra handset just to try it out.
br /
br /I am not disappointed! This is a very well designed phone system. The menu is intuitive and easy to use, plus all the lights are my favorite blue :-). The handset is just like a clamshell motorola cellphone, even the icons in the menu. Probably a 256-color LCD, but it is a first for a cordless phone! Wallpaper and ringtone and even individual phonebook entry are configurable. You can even customize the handset from your PC using the included software and USB cable. It even has some PDA feature like calendar and appointment reminder in the handset. If I don't tell you, you might think I am talking about a new cellphone from Uniden.
br /
br /Besides the very functional handset, and of course, you can plug a regular phone wire and use it as a regular expandable phone system with ansering machine. But the feature that attracted me buying this phone system is the bluetooth connection. I was wondering why no one has thought about this when bluetooth made popular a couple of years ago. I paired my Sony Ericsson S710i to the base unit, just like one will do with the cellphone to the headset, it found the device and paired it with no problem. I set the base unit to connect to S710i automatically, and viola! Just so happen my friend called me on my cellphone, all 2 handsets were ringing (so did the S710i). I pressed the "mobile" button, and pressed "Enter" to confirmed using S710i, and I was answering using the Uniden's headset. It even display caller ID on all the LCDs! Basically, my S710i is now my phone jack, and the whole Uniden system is plugged into it "wirelessly". Cordless + Wireless, what a wonderful solution!

br /Bluetooth cell phone is getting very popular recently, even the stubborn Samsung is making new phone with bluetooth capability. If you have a land line and a bluetooth-enabled cellphone, you could now switch between the regular phone line and your free cellphone minutes at will. Talking about the convenience of answering both using just one handset(and you can tell which one is ringing by the different ringtone you assigned them)!

br /The only thing on my wishlist for this phone is to be able to transfer phonebook from my cell phone to it via bluetooth. Since most bluetooth devices have this function, I can see a firmware update coming for this already great phone.

br /May be it is too early to review the quality and reliability of this phone system; may be I will add to my review later. For now, I like it... A LOT!
Hearing Aid Compatable January 21, 2006 Dale Smith (Brockton, MA United States) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
The reason I gave this phone such a high review is it is the only cordless Digital 5.8 GHz phone that worked with my mothers hearing aids. All the other phones we tried of this type did not work even though they are required to by FCC regulations.
br /
br /I recommend this phone for this reason since it is probably the best bet for people with hearing aids that use a telecoil.
br /(It may not work with some hearing aids since we only know about the ones she has.)
br /
br /Uniden has my higest praise for this reason and it has uplifted the spirts of my mother.

Slick Phone! March 9, 2007 J.L. (St. Louis, Mo) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
A lot of others complain about the clam-shell phone, I cant say I use it that much but the times i have used it I haven't had a problem with it other than when opening the phone, the pin on the side slides out slightly and it's where i rest my fingers so i notice it but dont feel that is a short coming to the phone. This review is more on the base station and other uniden phones that work with the system. The bluetooth runs better than advertised, I have a Samsung I730 and it stated the phone wasn't compatible, sorry guys, your wrong, it works great for me! When my cell phone rings i can pick it up on any phone and call out on it just as easy. The bluetooth works great with my HS bluetooth headset and the range is great. I can work anywhere in the house and with the base 20-30 feet away and pick up the land line or cell phone. One of the reasons I purchased this phone was because i have 2.4Ghz wireless security cameras and wireless network access which always generated noise on my cordless phones. Along with the ELBT595 I have 4 additional 905's and 2 tcx-440's. The volume is great, i even have to turn it down because at full volume it's to loud, the norm for me is actually less than 50%, the speaker phone works just as well. The only problem i've had with any of the Uniden phones is the headset jack. I use a headset on one phone and when its removed it doesn't notice the change so you cant talk or hear anyone unless you reconnect the headset (I've had this problem on EVERY phone i've used). Battery life is good, I've talked on the phone for hours on end and while the other persons phone died out, this one showed no sign of discharge. I'm also bad with chargers, the phone usually remains on the charger but from time to time they've been left off for several days with less that 50% discharge (this is the 905's and 440 phones only) This is an easy one to rate, 5 stars from me, not a single problem in 6+ months.
Not perfect but tough to beat January 10, 2006 George W. Thompson (Milwaukee, WI) 10 out of 12 found this review helpful
I've been in the business voice and data communications business for 24 years and I have yet to see a more functional cordless telephone. The easiest way for me to rate it is to say it looks like a chubby flip cell phone with a very nice color LCD display, and that it is perfect with a very few exceptions.
br /
br /1. In an office building going through 6 - 8 steel stud sheetrock walls, I could get about 350' away before it started to break up. The range of the Plantronics CT-12 was a little better by about 10%. Still, the ELT-560's range is not bad at all.
br /
br /2. I wish I could program a hook flash in speed dial. But Uniden tech support says this is a home phone, and if I want a business phone I should spend $300 for their 900 MHZ business class cordless phones. No thanks, for $65 this little gem will do quite nicely thank you.
br /
br /3. Loading different programs over old ones via their USB interface and Windows software doesn't always work. About 10% of my new uploads fails. But it sure is nice having a Windows based software program to let me easily change the features on my phone and then let me save different settings under different names so I can use the same phone on different systems or as a different person.
br /
br /4. The in use message came on screen one time and would not go away no mater what I did with the phone. Unplugging everything, power, both batteries, phone line, and AC adaptor and putting it back together fixed that one. Where is Ctrl - Alt - Del when you need it?
br /
br /5. I wish that the phone would ring immidiately when the Unique ID is turned on. Unique ID brings a saved picture on screen when the phone has a match in Caller ID. Cool feature, but not worth letting the phone skip a couple of ring cycles.
br /
br /That's it. Those are the only things that could benefit from a little improvement. If you can find a better single line cordless telephone for $65, I sure would like to know about it.
br /
br /Like I said before, this little gem is darn near perfect.
